Close To The Broken Places
There's a strange logic to the kingdom of God: He draws nearest when we feel furthest away. When our hearts are shattered and we can barely speak, that's when He leans in closest. Not to fix us immediately, not to offer easy answers, but simply to be near.
We live in a world that tells us to hide our brokenness, to paste on a smile, to have it together. But God moves toward what we're taught to hide. He's not waiting for you to get better before He shows up, He's already there, sitting in the rubble with you, holding space for your pain.
Your brokenness isn't a barrier to His presence; it's often the doorway. When everything else falls away and you have nothing left to offer but your raw, honest hurt, you discover something profound: God was never drawn to your strength in the first place. He's always been drawn to your heart.
Today, if your heart is broken, you don't have to carry it alone. You don't have to pretend it doesn't hurt. You don't have to rush your healing or force yourself to move on. Sit with the One who promises to be near. Let Him hold what you can't carry. Trust that in your most broken moments, you're never closer to His heart.

Prayer
Lord, You are near to the brokenhearted, drawing close to the most wounded places, the deepest pain, the shattered pieces that feel beyond repair.
My heart is broken right now, not just sad but fractured, not just hurting but devastated, and I desperately need to know You're near, that You see this, that You care.
Teach me that You don't wait at a safe distance from broken hearts but move toward them, that my breaking doesn't repel You but draws You closer, that You're most present in my most painful moments.
I feel so alone in this heartbreak, isolated by pain others can't see or understand, but You promise nearness specifically to the brokenhearted, which means You're close to me right now.
Help me sense Your nearness when I feel abandoned, to know You're here even when I can't feel anything but pain, to trust Your proximity when grief makes me feel utterly alone.
Remind me that You understand broken hearts, that Jesus wept, that You're not uncomfortable with my tears or confused by my grief, that You know heartbreak intimately.
Give me comfort that comes from Your nearness, hope from knowing I'm not alone in this, peace from Your presence with me in the breaking.
Let me feel You near today, close to my brokenhearted state, present in my pain, near when I need You most.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
