My Peace I Give to You

The night Theo was born, he was taken straight to the special care unit. We didn't even get to hold him before he was taken away.

He wasn't getting enough oxygen. His heart wasn't beating consistently. There was an infection, and a list of other things I only half understood at the time.

At 3am I stood in that ward, delirious, watching my son inside an oxygen tank. Alarms and beeps were going off all around us, and I had no idea what a single one of them meant.

Every one of them sounded like the worst news of my life arriving. The nurses and midwives were completely calm - sometimes not even looking up. They knew which sounds mattered and which ones didn't.

I, however, didn't know anything. I couldn't do anything. I have never been more helpless.

And yet, looking back on that moment, I realize I was at peace that night.

Not because I understood what was happening. I didn't. Not because I could fix it. I couldn't.

The medical staff had peace because they knew. I had peace because God was there.

That is the peace Jesus promised, and it is not the kind the world hands out.

Right before He went to the cross, Jesus told His disciples: "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you."

This wasn't just a nice sentiment. He was about to face betrayal, torture, and death. And yet He had peace. Real peace. The kind that doesn't depend on circumstances cooperating.

The world's peace is conditional. It requires everything to go well. It demands control, comfort, and favorable outcomes.

It asks you to understand every alarm before you can rest. And the moment something goes wrong, the moment uncertainty creeps in, that peace evaporates. It's fragile. Temporary. Exhausting to maintain.

But Jesus' peace is different. It's not something I achieve by managing my life perfectly. It's something I receive. A gift.

His own peace, the peace He carried through storms, through opposition, through suffering, transferred from His heart to mine. And it doesn't fluctuate based on my circumstances.

This is what He offers in the room you're standing in right now. Not the absence of problems, but His presence in the middle of them. Not a quiet room, but a steady heart in a loud one.

Today, receive the peace Jesus has already given you. Not because everything is under control, but because He is. And His peace is enough.
