Lord, Show Me Which Way to Go.

Jesse (who's almost 2) does not hesitate. The second his feet touch the ground he is gone, off down the path at full speed, arms going, absolutely certain about where he is headed.

He rarely stops to check you've seen him leave. He might look over his shoulder once with a cheeky grin to see if we are following or if this is even the right way.

He has decided, and that is the end of it.

You have to keep an eye on him constantly. He is very good around roads, thankfully, he will pull up at the curb without being told. But everywhere else, he just goes.

I watch him tear off ahead of me, and I find myself wishing I had whatever he has.

Because when it comes to direction in my own life, I have none of it. I feel like I am permanently standing at a crossroads.

There is one option, and another, and a third that I keep circling back to, and all of them look reasonable from where I am standing.

Jesse picks a direction in half a second, whereas I can stand at the same junction for months. I'll weigh the pros and cons, repeatedly asking God for an answer.

And I do not know how you are supposed to tell. Not that God is silent, but that I cannot work out what His answer would even look like if it came.

Is it peace? Is it the door that opens? Is it the consensus from friends and family advice? Is it the pull I feel toward one of the options?

Maybe. Or maybe that is just the option I already wanted, and I am asking God to sign off on a decision I made weeks ago.

I would love a burning bush. Something loud enough that I could not talk myself out of it afterwards. But I have never had one, and I am not sure I would trust myself to read it properly even if I did.

Psalm 32:8 says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with My eye on you."

He does not say how. He does not promise it will be obvious, or loud, or that I will get it on the first pass.

He says His eye is on me. And that the instructing is His to do.

So I am not going to pretend I have worked this out. I still do not know which of the three it is. I do not know how I will recognize it when it comes.

I just know who to ask.

Lord, I am standing here again, and I cannot see it.
