Lord, Carry What I Cannot Carry.

Matthew 11:28·WEB Translation

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

Carry What I Cannot Carry

Theo is four now and is getting big. Despite that, he still wants to be carried places.

It usually starts on the way back from somewhere, when his legs have had enough and Jesse, who is two, is already up in my arms.

Theo will look up and ask, and I know it isn't really about being tired. It's about watching his little brother get something he doesn't get anymore.

He wants to be held the way Jesse is held.

The problem is my back. I can manage a minute, maybe two, and then I have to put him down.

I am not strong enough to keep going. If I push past it, I pay for it later that day, and the day after. I know exactly where my limit is, and it comes much sooner than I want it to.

But most of us aren't carrying a literal heavy child. The heavy things in our lives are usually emotional burdens.

The job that stopped being survivable months ago. A parent who needs more from you than you know how to give. Infertility, burnout, grief, or a worrying health issue.

Whatever it is, the weight is too much. And you've been trying to carry it alone for too long.

With all the burdens in my life, I always turn to Matthew 11:28, which says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest."

Jesus didn't say, "Come to me when you've figured it out" or "Come to me after you've carried it a while longer."

He said Come. Right now. Weary as you are.

Giving God my burdens isn't a one-time prayer. It's a daily, sometimes hourly in my case, choice to release my grip on what I'm clutching.

To stop picking back up what I've laid down. To trust that what I give Him will be held securely.

This doesn't mean the burden disappears. Grief doesn't vanish. Health issues don't instantly heal. Financial stress doesn't magically resolve.

But when God carries the weight with you, something shifts. The crushing pressure eases. You can breathe again. You're not alone in it anymore.

Today, whatever burden is breaking you, give it to God. Actually give it.

Let Him carry what you cannot.

Lord, carry what I cannot carry, because I'm weighed down by burdens too heavy for my shoulders, crushed under weight I was never meant to bear alone.

I'm trying to carry everything myself, all the responsibilities, all the worries, all the problems, all the pain, and it's breaking me, I can't do it anymore.

Teach me to distinguish between what's mine to carry and what's Yours, to recognize when I'm bearing weight You never asked me to hold, to release what's crushing me into Your capable hands.

Some burdens are too heavy for me, some situations too big for my strength, some problems beyond my ability to solve, and I need You to take them because I simply cannot.

Help me actually give You what I say I'm giving You, to stop picking back up what I've laid down, to trust You with burdens I've carried so long they feel like part of me.

Remind me that You're not just willing but wanting to carry what's too heavy for me, that You invited this, that asking You to carry my burdens honors You rather than bothers You.

Give me faith to release my grip on what I cannot carry, courage to admit I need help, trust that what I give You will be held securely.

Let me hand over what I cannot carry today, feeling the weight lift as You take it, free because You carry what I could never hold.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
